Yes, they are. The alarms we install are very user friendly, and you can choose between using a fob or entering a 4 digit pin to set and unset the system (you don’t necessarily have to memorise an alarm code!). A user guide is provided following installation, we’ll take you through how to use the system once it’s in, and we have a 24/7 emergency phone number to call if you need any help.
A complete security system begins with a thorough and FREE Security Assessment of your premises. This involves evaluating the property and boundary lines, potential entry points, weaknesses, and other areas of concern. An experienced security professional will be able to help uncover potential risks, and identify solutions.
During a survey, we may uncover various weaknesses in the premises (for example, cracked or broken doors ) that may warrant further repair. Most of the time the intruder alarm system will work within the existing premises with little or no modifications. Once the risk assessment is completed and a security system to meet your needs has been designed, we’ll come and install the equipment and commission (set up and programme) the system for you.
It varies on the size of the property but typically, a three bedroom house will take a day. Our engineers are experienced professionals who excel at hiding cables in buildings. In certain cases (more in commercial or industrial buildings than residential) wiring may need to be exposed or installed in surface conduit, but cabling should never be positioned so that it can be compromised easily. We try to minimise the disruption or inconvenience caused when we carry out an installation. Where required, we cover flooring with a sheet to catch any falling debris and, once the installation is complete, we sweep or vacuum up any dirt if necessary.
Yes, the alarm system will allow you to fully-set or part-set the system. So, for example, at night you can leave the ground floor set and the first floor unset to walk around freely without causing an accidental activation.
We can install pet-friendly sensors if you have a cat or dog. This will allow your pet to move in front of the sensor without the alarm being triggered. If you do have pets then please do inform us during your free survey.
We’ve all experienced that intruder alarm which keeps going off at night by mistake – but systems only tend to go off in error when they haven’t been regularly serviced. Alarms can go off if batteries that are used in the sensors fail, a bit like a smoke alarm beeping when the battery runs out.
Occasionally they can be triggered by something innocent moving on the property (like a fox or badger). It is possible that they could be damaged by extreme weather conditions, but generally your intruder alarm system will not go off in error. And if you think it has, we provide a 24/7 emergency call out service and will come to turn it off for you, so you won’t ever be left without help.
It is recommended that alarm systems are checked over by a professional on a yearly basis. The engineer will check that each sensor is working, replace any batteries that need changing, and check ensure that all elements of the system are functioning as they should.
Census Systems will service your alarm for you once a year, if you would like us to do this. We can discuss that with you when we come to do your free survey. We’ll do all the groundwork, schedule the service appointments and remind you when they are coming up so you can change the date / time if the standing appointment doesn’t suit you.
A monitored intruder alarm is an intruder alarm system linked to an Alarm Receiving Centre (also known as ARC or Monitoring Station), which monitors activity on the system. If your alarm is activated, a member of staff at the ARC will contact the nominated keyholders and, where applicable, the Police.
It is entirely up to you whether you choose to have a monitored alarm. It does provide some peace of mind, knowing that someone else is monitoring your alarm and will notify you if there is anything that you need to be concerned about.
Yes, you can have an alarm system fitted which has no monitoring that you alone are in full control of. This type of system is known as an audible only intruder alarm.
A wired system uses cables to link all the different elements of the alarm together to the main control panel. Our engineers are fully trained in high quality cable installation and will usually be able to install a wired system without leaving a trace of the cables visible. It is possible to have an alarm system which does not involve cables being used to link up the different sensors and PIR detectors to the main control panel.
These are called wireless systems and use battery powered sensors and detectors which communicate to the main panel over a network. Census Systems supplies and installs both wireless and hardwired alarm systems. Once we have conducted a site survey and discussed your requirements, we can then mutually decide on the best system for you.
